Principal's Message

Our vision at Maddux is to build a caring, responsive school community that fosters human excellence.   Integrating academic excellence and social excellence together results in the development of human excellence.  We are focused on the academic progress of our students.  Yet, children need a balance of strong instruction in the subject areas, integrated with direct instruction and practice of social skills.  The social skills we want to develop in our children are described by the acronym C.A.R.E.S. -  cooperation, assertiveness, respect, empathy and self-control.  The majority of our staff is trained in the implementation of Responsive Classroom strategies to teach these skills.

There are approximately 600 students enrolled K-6 at Maddux Elementary, with a staff of 44 teachers and numerous support personnel. We have 26 classrooms and two special education / resource rooms.  We offer art, music, and physical education as special area classes to grades 1-6.  We also offer support instruction in special education and gifted education. Computers, laptops and many other technology tools are available to students and teachers for classroom productivity and creating presentations of content knowledge. A full-time staff member collaborates with classroom teachers to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum.

Our PTA is an active organization that supports our educational programs in many ways.  We have a strong Volunteer in Education program, in which parents support their children's education serving as volunteers in the classrooms or as clerical helpers to teachers.

We encourage all students to take an active role in their life at Maddux.  We offer many opportunities in the way of activity groups, classes, clubs, and committees.
