Nestled in a suburban neighborhood setting just minutes from downtown Cincinnati, Sherwood is one of the premier elementary schools in the state of Ohio. The Ohio Department of Education has awarded Sherwood an Excellent school rating for six consecutive years. This is the highest rating a school can achieve and has been awarded to less than 8% of Ohio schools. At Sherwood, our vision of creating success for all of our students is only realized through a vast array of collective efforts. Our students, parents, staff and community are closely linked to promote learning, foster self-esteem and create a strong, supportive and flexible educational experience.

Walk down the halls and you will see impressive pieces of artistic endeavors and innovative learning programs. Step into classroom areas and discover students engaged in a myriad of authentic learning experiences, which includes working with caring, nurturing teachers; educational assistants; peers; parent volunteers; and advanced technology. The learning, which is based on Ohio standards, is project-based, interactive and challenging, as evidenced by Sherwood's consistent outperformance of schools in its comparison group on the Ohio Proficiency test. In 2004 - 2005 Sherwood outpaced similar Ohio Schools in 85% of tests, and exceeded the state requirement in 100% of tests.

Sherwood’s Staff Makes It Happen
Sherwood’s child-centered professional staff is rated Highly Qualified by the state of Ohio. This coveted rating is determined by teacher graduate degrees, certification, and successful teaching reviews. Eighty-two percent of the teaching staff has a master’s degree or beyond and an additional 12% are candidates for advanced degrees. Four members of the staff have attained National Board Certification.

Sherwood’s challenging curriculum is individually tailored to the needs of each student. This is made possible through a variety of specialized programs and services, including gifted education, counseling, fine arts, physical education, band, orchestra, chorus, drama, special education, technology and Reading Recovery.

Advanced Technology Enhances Education

Sherwood has a long tradition for its leadership in educational technology. Our media/technology specialist holds a master’s degree in Educational Technology and Distance Learning with a specialization in Teaching and Learning. Our teachers, who are highly trained in the application of educational technologies, incorporate technology throughout the curriculum. Students have access to 180 wireless laptop computers, six mobile computer labs and work stations throughout the building.

Building A Better School One Parent At A Time
The Parent Teacher Association actively supports the educational mission of Sherwood Elementary. Not only does the PTA provide many of the programs students count on, but the group also raises funds for special projects, events and student activities. Parents also provide volunteer support in many capacities throughout the school and with 43 PTA committees and programs.
