COMMUNITY: Turpin High School is one of two high schools in the Forest Hills School District which is located in southeastern Hamilton County approximately ten miles east of downtown Cincinnati. The community is a middle-to-upper-middle class suburban area where the majority of residents hold business or professional positions in Greater Cincinnati. The estimated population for the Turpin attendance area is 21,000. The school district population is 43,000.
SCHOOL: Turpin High School, a 2008 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School, is a four-year comprehensive high school with a student enrollment of 1175. Another twenty high school students receive specialized vocational training by attending one of the career development campuses in the Great Oaks Joint Vocational School District.

SCHOOL YEAR AND CREDIT: Turpin High School operates on a two-semester system; final exams are given and grades/credit awarded at the end of each semester. Class periods are 55 minutes in length and meet 5 times per week, 36 weeks per year. One Carnegie unit is equivalent to 15 quarter hours or two half-credit semester courses. The graduation requirement is 21 units; specific subject matter distributions are also required.
SECTIONED COURSES: Ability grouping is used in English, Mathematics, Science, World History, American History, and American Government courses. Students are selected for Honors and Advanced Placement courses by considering teacher recommendations, test results, past academic record, and scholarly attitude.
