AHS, THS Recognized for Excellence in STEM Education

The science departments at both Anderson High School and Turpin High School are receiving impressive honors recognizing their excellence in STEM education. The Ohio Academy of Science announced this month that the two FHSD high schools have been selected to receive the Governor's Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for their accomplishments during the 2021-2022 school year.
AHS and THS were the only two schools selected in the Cincinnati area for this honor.
In order to qualify for this award, AHS and THS had to conduct a science fair with 12 or more students and have two student participate in the 2022 Virtual District Science Day. FHSD students were also required to participate in youth science opportunities outside of the classroom.
The AHS Science Department and the following teachers are recipients: Alex Bove, Corey Larrison, Courtney Snider, David Brandon, Emily Dorsey, Holly Lowden, Jeff Granger, Jeff Rodriguez, Justin Good, Katelyn Calder, Louise Keep, Patrick Rehl andTroy Spitzmueller.
The THS Science Department and the following teachers are recipients: Beth Brill, Brett Granger, Corey Mullins, Erin Berling, Gayle Garza, Lindsay Burton, Peter Hoying and William Benken.
The Ohio Academy of Science defines STEM education as both the mastery and integration of science technology, engineering, and mathematics for all PK-12 students. It incorporates scientific inquiry and technological design through student-focused, project-based curricula to develop skills of communication, teamwork/collaboration, creativity/innovation, critical thinking and problem solving.
Each school will receive a special Governor's Award certificate, and each teacher will receive a complimentary membership to The Ohio Academy of Science.
