It takes many volunteers and many hours to continue the events and programs that Summit PTA sponsors every year. Volunteering is also a great chance to get to know your child’s school and make new friends.
PTA sponsors many activities at Summit Elementary from during the school day enrichment like COSI, to after school opportunities like the Boys and Girls events. None of these events can happen without the support of our amazing parent and family community. If you are interested in getting involved at any level- from chairing an event to supporting a committee- we want to help you get connected. Please consider completing the Volunteer Interest Form.
While there are many ways and at many levels you can get involved, we are looking for someone to chair our Summit Strong Walk a Thon. This is the only fundraiser Summit has and is always a fun event for the students and faculty. Through the funds raised during the Walk a Thon, PTA has been able to support nearly $15,000 in during the school day enrichment. These funds are only a portion that are spent to support our teachers and students with resources for the classroom and media center, fun activities that allow the kids to gather together after-school, beautification to the school and much, much more. The Walk a Thon is critical in making this all happen. Our past chair has divided the work into manageable pieces of work and will be more than happy to sit down with anyone interested- so not only will you be leading a well oiled machine you will also have support from past chairs and the board. On March 1, students in grades K-4 will take part in "It's Simply Chemistry", COSI's traveling hands-on experience. Volunteers are needed to make this day happen and you don't have to be a scientist to help out! For more information and to sign up, please click on the Sign Up Genius. If you would like to volunteer in the Media Center, please email Amy Kisor for more information! A Sign Up Genius will be emailed each month so that you can choose a time that works best for you. Shifts are Monday through Friday, 9:00-11:00 am or 1:00-3:30 pm. You can volunteer for all or any part of a shift!
Do you like to plan events?
Do you have a passion for making lists? Do you enjoy the adrenaline rush of “event day” and the satisfaction of seeing a successful event come off? Sign up to coordinate one of the many PTA events of the year, such as dances, the Back to School Bash, Arts Night, various sixth grade activities, etc. Larger events like the Walk-a-Thon are broken into sub-committees such as prizes and volunteers.
Would you like to assist at events and activities?
Love helping at your kids’ school functions but aren’t interested in carrying a clipboard? We always need people to help with set-up, clean-up, refreshments, games, etc.
Would you rather work from home?
Do you prefer working on your computer while catching up on your favorite show? Lack flexibility to be up at the school during the day? Consider working alone on a project such as submitting box tops, editing the Beeline, updating the website, overseeing publicity, organizing volunteers, etc.
Would you like to be a room parent?
Does your child love seeing you in the classroom on special occasions? Do you secretly have as much fun with your kids’ birthday parties as they do? Consider becoming a room parent. You will work with volunteers and a class budget to plan two or three parties a year.
Do you just prefer to send in refreshments?
Having an overwhelming year at work or a new baby? We always need refreshments for events and activities...watch for emails!
Do you enjoy organizing fundraisers?
Have some natural untapped sales abilities? Consider selling Spirit Wear, coordinating the Book Fair, or organizing food drives.
Want to help, but need a minimum time commitment?
Prefer to work just a few hours a month or a certain month of the year? Let us know what time of the year works best and we can match you with the right event!
Have a special talent to offer?
Were you a writer or accountant in your “former life”? Take great photos? Some other area of expertise? Let us know-we’ll find a spot for you!

Do friends tell you that you’re a great leader? Have exciting ideas for making our school better? Join the board!
