Forest Hills School District is holding its third Parent Academy Night on January 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Nagel Middle School. Parent Academy Night provides the opportunity for parents and guardians, PreK-12, to come and learn about various topics that will help benefit families and student(s). Topics range from how to help your child with reading, technology awareness, College Credit Plus, transitions, big emotions and growing up in public. Our wonderful FHSD teachers, administrators and community members have all volunteered their time to make this night possible. Parent Academy is designed to benefit families with students of all ages.

Thank you to the Forest Hills Foundation for Education for sponsoring this event! This year, a light meal and childcare will be provided. The registration link below will help us plan for food and childcare. Thanks again to FHFE!

We will have two featured speakers in January you may choose from.

Dr. Devorah Heitner - Growing Up In Public
Navigating tech with kids can be overwhelming. Dr. Devorah Heitner, author and speaker, offers pragmatic, research-informed approaches to navigating digital milestones with kids. She will offer practical, timely, non-judgmental advice about technology and parenting in the digital age. She has written two books on parenting and technology: Growing up in Public: Coming Of Age In A Digital World and Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World. We will be giving away a few copies of her latest book, Growing Up In Public. Dr. Devorah will be joining us virtually.

Kerry Brown - Parenting Through Transitions and Big Emotions
Transitions are a constant in parenting today, whether they are small like leaving the house each day or big like starting kindergarten or heading off to college. How we manage these transitions can impact the entire family system and can create big emotions for both parents and children. Kerry Brown, Senior Parenting Specialist with Beech Acres Parenting Center and the Parent Connect Program, has more than 20 years of experience working with children & families. She has three children of her own, works in the hospital setting as a Child Life Specialist and is very familiar with the real-life challenges parents face. She has coached more than 1000 families and has a unique way of bringing back the joy in parenting and finding humor in our daily struggles. She will provide helpful tips and tools to find joy in parenting and lighten the load of every day challenges both big and small. Join us to learn effective strategies to ease these life changes.

Also featured this month will be Pizza with the Professionals, an event for high school students to participate in mock interviews and networking with members of the local workforce. This is part of the district's Community Partnership Program. In a separate session, AHS and THS counselors will lead an information session related to College Credit Plus. More details can be found below.

Please follow the links below to learn more about the topics covered during Parent Academy Night. If you are not able to attend on January 24, the next Parent Academy is on February 28, 2024. This will be a great learning event that you will not want to miss. Once you register (using the link below), more details will follow.
