Maddux Elementary Welcomes Ohio Lt. Governor to Help Launch New Fitness Challenge

Maddux Elementary welcomed Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel and former OSU and NFL star Ten Ginn Jr. on August 26 to help launch the new Team Tressel Fitness Challenge. Only a handful of schools across the state hosted the Lieutenant Governor and his crew. The pep-rally style assembly motivated students to participate in the optional fitness challenge that promotes healthy habits in physical activity, nutrition and sleep.
“It is an honor to be selected as one of a few schools to host the Ohio Lieutenant Governor and his team to help launch this program,” said Maddux Principal Joy O’Brien. “We are very excited for students to have the opportunity to participate in the challenge. At Maddux, we prioritize wellness in our day to day connections with each other. This challenge goes right along with helping kids build valuable lifestyle skills.”
All FHSD elementary schools will participate in the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge. Although the program is completely optional for students, physical education teachers will encourage them to participate, as it promotes overall well-being through personal goal setting.
Students were fired up during the assembly with Lt. Governor Tressel. With the help of Maddux student volunteers and even Mrs. O’Brien, Team Tressel demonstrated various activities that students can log as part of the challenge.
