Register Now for FHSD's Parent Academy on October 16

We are thrilled to announce that Forest Hills School District is launching its fourth-annual Parent Academy series on Thursday, October 16 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Nagel Middle School! Parent Academy Night offers parents and guardians, PreK-12, the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics that can benefit you and your student(s). Our wonderful FHSD teachers, administrators and community members have all volunteered their time to make this night possible, and it has been designed to benefit families with students of all ages.
This valuable program would not be possible without the generous support of the Forest Hills Foundation for Education. Once again this year, a light meal and childcare will be provided to all registrants. Please be sure to fill out the form linked below to help us plan for food and childcare. Our October Parent Academy will include Kerry Brown, a senior parenting specialist at Beech Acres Parenting Center and the Parent Connext Program, as our featured speaker. Kerry’s presentation is titled “Talking to your kids about…puberty/human development/sex ed.” The goal of this session is to help parents navigate these important conversations by sharing practical tips, age-appropriate language and strategies to foster open and honest communication with your children about their changing bodies.
Kerry will cover different topics at each Parent Academy Night throughout the school year. She has worked with children and families for more than 25 years, both in the hospital setting as a child life specialist and in family coaching and therapy. Kerry draws on her personal experiences as a mother of three and her professional expertise to lead engaging, informative conversations. She has master’s degrees in human development, as well as family studies and play therapy.
Other topics that will be covered during the October 16 evening include gifted learners, Executive Functioning, and helping kids understand the pause on social media. Here is a link to the digital balance project. We are also hosting a Village Connections meeting for families of students with special needs. The topic for Village Connections will be "IEP 101". Come learn about opportunities for living and activities after the school years.
We appreciate this opportunity to connect with families in Forest Hills to discuss topics that are relevant to our community. The Parent Academy topics are selected based on feedback from parents and guardians, and we hope you find them valuable. By working together, our schools and families will continue to improve educational outcomes for students.
We look forward to seeing you on October 16 and throughout the school year. Any questions can be directed to Bob Buck, Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, at bobbuck@foresthills.edu.
