Test Drive Your Future with FHSD at Drive-a-Bus Day

Forest Hills School District is hosting its first-ever Drive-a-Bus Day recruitment event to give interested community members the chance to get behind the wheel of a school bus and recruit passionate new team members ahead of the 2025-2026 school year. This event allows people who might be interested in a career as a school bus driver to see what it is like to handle a larger vehicle and get a better idea of the day-to-day job before submitting an application.
“If someone has thought about working with FHSD before, but is a little nervous about driving a school bus, we encourage them to stop by and participate in our Drive-a-Bus Day,” FHSD Director of Business Operations John Eckert said. “Our drivers come from all backgrounds and have a wide variety of prior professional experiences. We have a fantastic, paid training program that supports new hires every step of the way and gives them all of the tools they need to be successful and safe drivers on the road.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in the parking lot of Nagel Middle School, 1500 Nagel Road, Cincinnati, OH 45255. Interested applicants can choose from two different sessions, one from 10 a.m. to noon and a second session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is not required to test drive a bus, and paid training is available to accepted applicants. Guests should register at the event, bring a valid driver's license and can enjoy a complimentary light meal. All participants will test drive the bus with a licensed driver on board.
“Despite recent staffing challenges that have impacted school districts across our region and country, bus drivers in Forest Hills School District have gone above and beyond day in, day out to make sure students get to and from school safely,” Superintendent Larry Hook said. “If you are interested in working with an incredible team and making a difference for the children and families in FHSD, this is the place for you.”
FHSD, like school districts across the country, has been navigating an ongoing shortage of bus drivers for the past several years. This district hopes this event will help address those staffing challenges while also shining a spotlight on the truly important work of school bus drivers and monitors.
“Our bus drivers are some of the most professional and hard-working people in FHSD,” Richard Porter, FHSD Transportation Coordinator, said. “Every single driver and substitute driver we find through this event will be a huge help in addressing staffing challenges that our district and many others are dealing with in recent years.”
