All FHSD Schools Earn Purple Star Award for Dedicated Military-Family Support
All nine schools in Forest Hills School District have been named Purple Star Schools as part of the Class of 2026 from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW). The Purple Star Award recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. These families may need support that non-military families will never face, and FHSD is dedicated to providing students with resources they need to excel.
Ohio’s Purple Star Advisory Board set specific criteria for schools to meet for eligibility. Each school must designate a staff member to serve as a liaison for military families. Liaisons complete professional development, identify students with a parent or guardian currently serving in the military, and coordinate support throughout the school community. Purple Star Schools must also complete at least one supportive activity and maintain a dedicated web page for military-family resources.
FHSD’s Purple Star School designations are valid for three years and expire in April 2029. Schools will have the opportunity to renew their designations in the fall of 2028.
Military-connected families can refer to FHSD’s Military Family Resources web page.
