FHSD Approves Negotiated Employee Contracts

Jun 29, 2023

Forest Hills School District and the three employee labor organizations have agreed to contracts for the 2023-2024 school year, which were approved by the Board of Education during its meeting on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

The FHSD bargaining team, which includes Central Office administrators and the Board’s attorney, met with representatives from the Forest Hills Teachers Association, OAPSE 177 and OAPSE 273 separately on multiple occasions in May and June. The new 1-year contracts include a 2% salary increase across all classifications and a reset of Board health insurance contributions to 80/20 (PPO) and 85/15 (HDHP). The negotiated contracts also included base salary increases for paraprofessionals, elementary health aides and bus monitors.

“I think it is a strong indicator of the quality of our employees and the strength of Forest Hills School District when we’re able to come to the table together, have important and honest discussions, and agree to terms in a respectful manner like we did during these negotiations,” Superintendent Larry Hook said.

The three collective bargaining associations all ratified the tentative contracts prior to the Board’s final approval during Wednesday’s meeting.

“These were positive and productive discussions,” OAPSE 177 President Doug Baker said. “I appreciated the ability for both sides to advocate their positions in a professional setting.”

“The Forest Hills Teachers Association looks forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with the Forest Hills School District and Board of Education to ensure success for all students,” FHTA President Chris Preston said.

The district bargaining team will continue to have an open dialogue with FHTA throughout the school year regarding salary schedules in advance of next spring, when all units will return to the collective bargaining table upon the conclusion of these approved contracts.

FHTA represents teachers in FHSD and other certified staff members. Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) 177 includes clerical, custodial, food service, maintenance, bus drivers, mechanics, health aides and bus monitors. OAPSE 273 represents paraprofessionals. You can view the individual contracts by clicking the links below.

Forest Hills School District is a public school district that serves more than 7,100 students in Anderson Township and the Village of Newtown. FHSD is proud to be recognized as a leader in Ohio for elementary education, behavioral intervention and supports for students, music education and more.
