Maddux Elementary School celebrated its 60th anniversary on Tuesday, August 13, welcoming alumni, former teachers, retired staff and community members back to the school for a 60th birthday celebration.

The celebration marked 60 years of academic excellence, community partnership and student success at Maddux. Guests enjoyed a reception with light refreshments where they were able to peruse more than six decades of memorabilia, reconnect with old friends and share memories. Guests, which included members of the very first kindergarten class at Maddux, had the opportunity to tour the building and reflect on the many generations of students and staff who have called Maddux home.

The school is named for Harold Z. Maddux, a prominent member of the Forest Hills community during the 20th century. He dedicated more than 40 years to education, including as a principal, and left a lasting impact upon the entire community.

That impact was especially meaningful during the anniversary celebration, when descendants of the Maddux family joined the festivities. Harold Z. Maddux’s youngest daughter, Nancy, attended the celebration alongside her three sons, their wives, a few grandchildren and even her great-grandson - fittingly named Maddux

The Maddux administrative team presented Nancy with this year’s staff shirt, which proudly displays, "Maddux Strong for 60 Years." Accepting the gift during an emotional moment, Nancy shared, "My dad would be so proud of this school" - a beautiful reminder of the lasting legacy and community spirit that continues to unite the Maddux community.

Sixty years after opening its doors, Maddux Elementary remains committed to the values that Harold Z. Maddux upheld: service, integrity and making a difference in the lives of students.
