50 Years of Educational Excellence at Turpin

Turpin High School is commemorating 50 years of excellence in public education during the 2026-2027 school year. After officially opening its doors on August 22, 1976, the school has educated and inspired generations of Spartans over the past five decades.

School leaders, parent and community volunteers, and Forest Hills School District personnel worked together to create an unforgettable 50th Anniversary Kick Off event on September 25. Guests were treated to wonderful musical performances from students in the Turpin choir, marching band and orchestra, with a special orchestral piece titled “Golden Jubilee” composed by Aadhivan Ramkumar (2020 graduate of THS) to commemorate this important anniversary. The celebration also included tours of the school, a projection mapping art display and special recognitions before the evening’s football game.

“The kickoff event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the past 50 years of Turpin High School and the legacy that will carry forward for generations to come,” said Superintendent Suzanna Davis. “It was a reflection of the strength and spirit of our community, bringing generations of Spartans together around a shared sense of pride and belonging.”

FHSD worked closely with the Anderson Township Historical Society to review archives from the Forest Hills Journal, creating several historical displays to recognize local news coverage of the school’s opening. This gave visitors an opportunity to see actual news articles, headlines and photographs from the 1976 editions of the newspaper.

Turpin High School plans to have additional commemorations and recognitions at sporting events and other student performances during the remainder of the school year. Community members will also find historical facts and special celebrations on the FHSD website and social media channels all year long.
